Lightwave 5.5 Patch File Instructions

Download the patch file below!

Intel:  setup55c.exe

*IMPORTANT:  Make sure Layout and Modeler are closed before attempting the patch!

To patch your version of Lightwave, simply download and run the file setup55c.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.  Your old Layout, Modeler, and Screamernet files will be renamed with a .55a extension, and you may remove them from your hard drive.  Both Steamer and Morph Gizmo plug-ins should be re-added after patching.

The setup55c.exe contains all the files necessary to update Lightwave.  If you want the programs, plugins, or documentation only, download the corresponding .ZIP files below

Updated online docs:  pc55docs.zip       *Contains only the updated documentation*

=== Inside pc55plug.zip: ====
lwplugs.zip (layout plugins)
modplugs.zip (modeler plugins)
commplugs.zip (common plugins)
onlinedocs.zip (updated documentation)

These zip files contain some new and some replacement plug-ins for layout and modeler.  Simply extract these files to the appropriate directories and add the new plug-ins via Layout and Modeler.  The replacement plug-ins need not be re-added in within Lightwave, because they will overwrite the current versions which already have config file entries.  *NOTE:  Plugins should be found in the \Plugins directory, under the directory in which Lightwave is installed - usually C:\Newtek.  Under the Plugins directory, there will be 3 sub-directories:  Layout, Modeler, and Common.  Unzip the files into the corresponding directories (i.e. lwplugs.zip => Plugins\Layout)
=======================

New Features:

LAYOUT

- The 'match goal orientation' option in the ik panel now effects the descendants of the selected item as well.

- When Dynamic Update is on in the options panel, you can now see the changes made in the 'bones' panel and changes made to morph amounts, in the layout view as you make them.

- Layout now supports file-selection and Color-picker plugins.

New Plug-ins:

LAYOUT

- Deformer.p:  Fixes a problem with assigning the inappropriate control objects when items are cleared from the scene.

- Specbuf.p:  Fixes a problem that caused Layout to crash when the user loaded a scene with special buffers applied and tried to enter the effects panel.

- Gizmoren.p:  Fixes a problem that caused .giz files not to render over SN.

- SkyTracer.p:  No longer beta, this is the final release version.  Check out the updated docs at www.newtek.com.

- Steamer.p:  New improved Steamer renders objects 20 times faster!  Improved algorithms, better communication between 'steamy particles' and 'particlestorm' and faster light rendering as well.  Check out the updated docs at www.newtek.com for more details!

- Version 1.2 of the scripting system is included here.  The updated docs are in Onlinedocs.zip, (unarchive Onlinedocs.zip to your OnlineDocs/LScript directory).

MODELER

- Addmball.p:  Fixes bug where plugin would create only single point.

- PntClnPlus.p:  Fixes bug that caused the plugin to crash under win 95 and when clone high-poly-count objects.

- Version 1.2 of the scripting system is included here.  The updated docs are in Onlinedocs.zip.

COMMON

- Updated versions of LWPanels.p, EnvAcess.p, ColrPikr.p, and Equation.p

Other Changes:

- Degree symbols have been added to the numeric labels of graphs displaying
  angular values.

Fixes:

LAYOUT

- Selecting Items in the main layout view will now highlight the selected item in the scene
editor when it is open.

- Shifting values in the zoom factor envelope editor when using 'Lens Focal Length' now uses   the proper unit system instead of always calculating in zoom factor, however it is not recommended shifting values when in either FOV mode since they are not linearly related to 'zoom factor'.

- Clearing bones would sometimes crash Layout, this has been fixed.

- When using 'draw child bones' the children now inherit the attributes of their parent.

- Textures would sometimes lose their links with texture reference objects when an object falling before the reference object in the item list was cleared from the scene.  This has been fixed.

MODELER

- Using the save command now updates the last 'handled' file as opposed to the last 'saved' file.

- Single points were being deleted when using the knife tool.  This has been fixed.

- Smooth shift was deleting some extra points and would cause crashes when their polygons traversed.  This has been fixed.

- Fixed bug that was preventing textcompose and textcurve, located in the objects=>custom menu, form functioning properly.

PLUGINS

- Steamer will no longer crash Layout or Screamernet when rendering objects with 'inner shadows' turned on.

EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES
===============================================================================

- A stereoscopic rendering option has been added.  It is activated and deactivated by hitting Ctrl-S in the layout window.  When it is turned on, the eye separation distance can be specified in a requester.  The camera should use a target object to make the "eyes" converge.  Rendering with this option active will result in two images for each frame, which depict the scene as viewed from positions to the left and right of the single camera that would normally be used.  The frame numbers in the filenames of the saved images will be followed by either "L" or "R" to distinguish these views.

*Note:  Experimental features are not supported.  Use them at your own risk!
